Heather Watson routs Sania Mirza to claim biggest senior win of career
• 18-year-old beats Mirza 6-2, 6-4
• Watson recorded her fifth straight-sets win of tournament
The US Open junior champion Heather Watson won the biggest senior title of her career today at the $25,000 Aegon GB Pro-Series tournament in Wrexham.
The 18-year-old from Guernsey secured her fifth straight-sets win of the week, beating the top seed and former top-30 player Sania Mirza of India 6-2 6-4.
Watson’s only previous senior title came at a $10,000 event in Frinton last summer.
She has won gold at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games and, in June, claimed her first win in the main draw of a WTA tour event when she beat Aleksandra Wozniak at Eastbourne.
